Although their debut album dates back to Feb 2007, it was only recently I discovered this band...
Pas onlangs ontdekte ik via een collega-blogger de Amerikaanse band The National Lights, hoewel hun debuut (The dead will walk, dear) al in februari 2007 uitgebracht werd. Meer dan een rimpeling en goede recensies veroorzaakte dat niet, en dat is best wel jammer, want deze band brengt fijne nummers, ingebed in een rijke traditie van verhalen vertellen (in grote lijnen beschrijft dit album verschillende aspecten van een moordzaak in het Midwesten van de VS) en sobere arrangementen. Je krijgt van de band alvast deze nummers mee :It's not that The National Lights received huge success for their charming debut, and that's really a pity, cause this is an album that's hard not to like. Embedded in a tradition of songs-to-listen-to, telling stories with sober arrangements, this album roughly documents the passions, trials, and regrets of a Midwestern murder.
