Bloodbuzz Ohio - The National
In augustus mogen we op Pukkelpop genieten van The National, een groep die plaat na plaat blijft groeien en nu met het nieuwe album High violet alweer grote sier maakt. De single daaruit, Bloodbuzz Ohio, kleeft aan de ribben. Met een stem die nauw aanleunt bij die van Stuart A. Staples van Tindersticks (maar minder melancholisch, eerder ingehouden kwaad) gaat er een zekere dreiging van uit, als donkere wolken nét voor het onweer losbarst. Dit nummer ontwikkelt zich dan ook als opstapelende wolken en een beginnend onweer en je weet dat dit nog maar de voorbode was van een erger onweer dat later op de avond zonder twijfel nog komt. Ik vermoed (en hoop) dat we live het volledig uitgebarsten onweer voorgeschoteld krijgen...

Even vriendelijk laten weten dat de regels "I’ll rest my eyes till the fevers outta me; I’ll rest my eyes to the rivers in the sea" in het lied niet voorkomen.
